The Orchard
The Orchard, as an Additional Support Needs provision, provides learning for primary age children with complex long term additional support needs, mainly associated with Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The Orchard is made up of 3 classes ranging from P1-7, and provides children with opportunities to play, learn and develop in a purpose built environment. Each class benefits from the support of 1 class teacher and 2 learning assistants, with an Early Years Practitioner supporting across all rooms. The Orchard does benefit from a highly skilled and committed staff team.
In the Orchard our classes are Blossom, Oak and Spruce and the learners are placed in the different classes based on their developmental, sensory and learning profiles.
We work closely with health professionals and we value working in partnership with parents and carers.
Here at the Orchard we are trying to:
Be Neuro-affirming in our practice
We are prioritising our learners emotional regulation and social communication
We value play and learning through play
We are trying our best to capture our learners’ views
We believe that ALL behaviour is communication and ALL behaviour is purposeful
We value predictability and desirability, when we are planning our learning activities and timetables
Targets and activities are based on the developmental stage of our learners
EVERY CHILD IS UNIQUE
We consider parents, carers and extended family our partners
Our learners are our partners as well.
